Prepare for A Tattoo: The Full Checklist

Things to consider before having a tattoo

If you are a blood donor, you cannot give your blood to others for at least six months after the tattoo.

If you have an operation or treatment planned in the next few months, it may not be appropriate to get a tattoo. Always consult your doctor if you are unsure about what is okay.

The age limit for getting a tattoo at Secret Arts Tattoo is 18 years. There are no exceptions to this rule and guardian approval does not change this.

You must be able to show valid identification. If you are unable to do this, Secret Arts Tattoo reserves the right to refuse you treatment.

A tattoo is permanent, think about your decision carefully and be sure of what you want.

When you make your booking, you should know what you want the tattoo to be (design, placement, size and colour scheme). This will make it easier for both you and your tattooist. Feel free to share inspo pictures with the local Indonesia tattoo artist. You may like the colours in one picture and the style in another. The more you can describe your vision the better. Before your session, you will need to approve the sketch you and your tattooist have agreed on.

Take care of your skin. Lubricate the intended area daily the week before your booked appointment. Moisturised and soft skin makes a big difference to how the colours are received and settle during the treatment.

Children are not allowed in the studio! If you have children, you will need to find a babysitter at the tattoo appointment. A tattoo studio is not a safe environment for a child to be in.

Choose appropriate clothing for the treatment. Try to wear or bring for a change of clothes, comfortable and loose fitting clothes in airy materials. Suitable for the intended treatment area are for example;

Arm = T-shirt, linen. Not long sleeves or shirts.

Legs = Skirt or trousers with wide/stretchy legs, e.g. sweatpants, which can be easily folded up.

Come to your treatment well rested. This is sometimes easier said than done, but try to sleep well at night for your appointed time. Stress, lack of sleep and exhaustion lower the pain threshold, make the body less able to tolerate pain and slow down healing.

Eat and drink properly an hour before your scheduled appointment. Avoid nicotine, energy drinks, espresso etc.

Please bring something to chew on to your session. Keeping your blood sugar up makes it easier for your body to stay stable during treatment.

Do not come to your session under the influence of alcohol or drugs. You will be required to sign a Health Declaration before your treatment, certifying that you are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of treatment. If you are noticeably under the influence, Secret Arts Tattoo reserves the right to refuse you treatment.

If the tattooist deems that the client should not undergo treatment for any reason or if there is reason to interrupt an ongoing session, this needs to be respected by the client. Secret Arts Tattoo always reserves the right to refuse a client treatment.

Please read the Tattoo Aftercare pages before choosing to get a tattoo.
